Outside Van Tails has its own bike repair shop and room for 6 bikes – Robb Report

Attention cyclists: Outside Van now has a motorhome just for you.

The Portland-based custom shop has just unveiled a new model called Tails aimed specifically at avid riders. Accommodating up to six bikes, it’s perfect for the type of camper who views the campground as little more than the starting point for a much larger two-wheeled adventure.

Like so many other premium motorhomes on the market, Tails is based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Outside Van doesn’t specify which powertrain is under the hood, but it does have an all-wheel-drive system that virtually guarantees it’s a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. This mill is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and is capable of producing 188 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. More impressively, it can also tow up to 7,500 pounds. The van features Fox 2.0 front and rear shocks, a 50-inch LED light bar and safari roof rack, and 17-inch Black Rhino Yellowstone wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. With this setup, there isn’t much ground he won’t be able to conquer.

Beyond its land-based prowess, Tails is also a complete bike-on-wheels mechanics station. There’s a Park Tool repair stand, a flip-up rear door worktable, custom tool rolls, Molle panels for your gear, and an ARB air compressor with multiple attachment sites. As for the six bikes the van can store, four can be mounted on the exterior utility ladders and an additional two on the interior glider in the garage.

Of course, even the most dedicated cyclists don’t spend all their time riding bikes or fixing bikes. Tails has many features to help you relax and rejuvenate. When it comes time to prepare that post-drive dinner, there’s an open-plan kitchen with an induction cooker and microwave. The mini-kitchen is complemented by a deep sink with sprayer faucet, a 130 liter stainless steel refrigerator and a 20 gallon fresh water tank. To help you relax, there is a three-panel bed with a custom-made mattress and a convertible sofa. And for trips where you find yourself in unforgiving heat, a 12-volt rooftop air conditioning system helps keep things cool, while an outdoor shower will keep you clean. For those who want to stay connected while camping, there are also plenty of power outlets, powered in part by a lithium-ion battery and a roof-mounted solar panel, to power up your gadgets.

Tails is just a concept at this point, but it will soon be available for purchase and customization, according to HiConsumption. The store doesn’t list prices for its many versions, some of which are currently on sale, but you can reach out if you find one you like.
